Glass Claims
Non-eGlass Claims
While customers and repair facilities are encouraged to take advantage of the many benefits of the eGlassClaim Application, Manitoba Public Insurance will continue to accommodate those customers and repair facilities who do not wish to use eGlassClaim.
Claimants wishing to make a claim for glass damage only without using eGlassClaim can call 985-7000 from inside Winnipeg, or 1-800-665-2410 from outside Winnipeg. The out-of-province line is 1-800-852-2743.
Upon confirmation of coverage, an electronically-generated cover sheet containing the customer contact and claim information, as well as a blank glass repair/replacement authorization form will be transmitted to the repair facility of the customer's choice. If the repair facility is an eGlassClaim user, they may complete the invoice in eGlassClaim and submit for payment. If the repair facility is not an eGlassClaim registered shop, they may complete the glass repair/replacement authorization and return it to the Glass Audit Unit at the Physical Damage Centre where it will be audited and paid.
*NOTE: This program applies only to claims where the damage is confined exclusively to windshields, side and back glass, and those mouldings which must be replaced with the glass, where the damage does not render the vehicle a total loss.
Policy
Replacement Parts
- When repairs are completed utilizing new glass, the price will be based on the NAGS Calculator with application of the appropriate discount.
Glass Repair
- Windshields will be repaired rather than replaced whenever the damage is not in the acute area and the repair can be done without compromising safety.
- The acute area is that area approximately 16” wide and 12” high which is located directly in the driver’s line of vision.
- When a repairable break is in the acute area and the insured insists in it being repaired, the shop will have the insured sign a waiver.
Labour and Material Amounts
- Labour and material amounts billed must not exceed the amounts agreed upon between Manitoba Public Insurance and the industry. Charges exceeding these amounts will not be paid by Manitoba Public Insurance, nor will the repairer invoice the owner for such additional amount unless previously agreed between owner and repairer.
Repair Standards
- It is the responsibility of each repairer to complete repairs in accordance with National Auto Glass specifications and I-CAR quality and safety standards utilizing the appropriate tools and equipment.
Repairs
There are now a number of repair facilities offering repairs to windshields with minor breaks.
When we are contacted by an insured with only minor damage to a windshield, consideration will be given to repairing the break rather than replacing the windshield. These repairs can normally do a satisfactory job of repairing existing damage. More importantly, repair will also stop the damage from spreading.
If the windshield can be repaired as a satisfactory method of correcting the damage, no deductible will be paid by the insured if there is extension coverage in effect. If the insured carries basic coverage, the matter of repair can be suggested as an alternative to paying the basic deductible.
If repairs are unsuccessful, the repairers will not charge us. If the repairs are found to be defective at a later date, the Estimator will authorize replacement of the windshield. The repair shop will reduce their subsequent billing by the cost of the unsuccessful repair, and we will pay the difference.
The appropriate deductible will always apply if the glass is replaced.
